Hendey Member, Freelancers Blogger shares her excitement over #CMC12 As a relatively new member to the Catholic Press Association, its taken me a few years to become acquainted with and to take advantage of all of the benets of membership in my favorite professional society. My participation earlier this year in the CPA's pilgrimage to Israel helped me to connect in person with some amazing new colleagues and has inspired me to seek freater involvement in the organization. As a blogger and author, I'll admit to feeling a bit of trepidation about attending my rst Catholic Media Conference. I will likely lack the experience level of other participants, but in reality, thats all the more reason to take the plunge. In studying the list of course offerings, I nd myself having difculty selecting between all of the terric options being offered by an amazing ensemble of speakers. A denite highlight of the event for me will be listening to keynote speaker Dr. Carolyn Woo. After spending several years at the helm of the Mendoza College of Business at my alma mater Notre Dame, Dr. Woo has already had a major impact in her new role as president and CEO of Catholic Relief Services. Having the chance to hear Dr. Woo speak - and hopefully to meet her in person - will be a fantastic opportunity. Another reason I am so happy to be attending the Catholic Media Conference is the spiritual component of the conference. I am fortunate enough to frequently attend Catholic conferences as a speaker, yet this is rarely a time for personal renewal. At the CMC, I plan to attend the Masses offered each day and also hope to visit a few of the local Indianapolis spiritual sites such as the Saints Peter and Paul Cathedral and the Our Lady of Fatima Retreat House. Admittedly, another major reason to be excited about my upcoming trip to Indianapolis is the fun I'm certain to have. I will be reconnecting with fellow writers and making new connections. It should be easy to spot me at CMC - I'll be the one asking her favorite journalists, authors and bloggers for pictures to share with my Facebook friends! Along with informal social time, I am very excited to attend the various receptions and dinners. There are so many reasons I am thrilled to have the chance to attend my very rst Catholic Media Conference. If you nd yourself on the fence about whether or not to attend this year's conference, I hope you'll decide as I did that your investment of time, resources and effort will pay great dividends professionally, personally and spiritually. I'll see you in Indianapolis! (Lisa M. Hendey is the founder and editor of CatholicMom.com and the author of A Book of Saints for Catholic Moms , O Radiant Dawn and The Handbook for Catholic Moms .
